The Volcano Art Center’s Sounds at the Summit series continues at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at the Niaulani Campus, featuring Wendell Ing with the release of his album, “Jazz Avenue.”
“Jazz Avenue” features jazzy versions of popular standards with touches of blues and country licks woven into a colorful tapestry of sound. These are some of classically trained Ing’s favorite songs. Some are well-known, others are gems from days gone by.
Ing is a recording artist living on the Big Island. He previously released four CDs of original music. This is his first album of cover songs, and it is an all-instrumental recording of some of his favorite jazz standards. Three of his four prior CDs were nominated for Na Hoku Hanohano awards. He also was the recipient of a Na Hoku award for co-producing Diana Aki’s multiple award-winning album, “Moments With You.”
Tickets are $15 for VAC members, $20 for nonmembers, and include a free copy of “Jazz Avenue,” as well as a free raffle for a mug emblazoned with the “Jazz Avenue” CD design to be awarded at the end of the concert. Ticketholders will be able to purchase beer, wine and pupus. Tickets are available online at www.volcanoartcenter.org, at VAC’s administration office in Volcano Village and the VAC Gallery in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. After Friday, Nov. 1, tickets will be sold at the VAC Gallery or at the door if they are not sold out.
The Niaulani Campus is located at 19-4074 Old Volcano Road in Volcano Village.
